Participate in a Study

Thank you for your interest in the CLAL! We hope this information helps you understand how you can get involved. We look forward to hearing from you!

Who can participate?

Criteria for participating in studies in the CLAL vary but, in general, we are interested in:

Adults with Aphasia

  • from a lesion on the left side of the brain
  • with no other neurological illness or injury
  • with no active psychiatric disorder
  • with normal or corrected-to-normal hearing and vision

AND

Adults without Aphasia

  • with no history of neurological illness or injury
  • with no active psychiatric disorder
  • with normal or corrected-to-normal vision

What do participants do?

In the CLAL, our experiments are based in cognitive and language tasks. They might involve:

  • Naming pictures
  • Reading words
  • Listening to words and sentences
  • Pressing buttons on a keyboard
  • Answering questions
  • Solving visual puzzles

We schedule sessions at the times most convenient for our participants, and there are always opportunities to take breaks.
We currently have opportunities for both in-person and remote (i.e., over Zoom) research participation.

Interested in participating?

We invite people with aphasia to join our Focal Acquired Brain Injury (FAB) Registry. Joining the Registry will put you on our list of people who are interested in participating in research. This will let us contact you when an appropriate study is looking for participants.

Registration is easy! Click here, then answer as many of the questions as you can and click “Submit”. It’s okay if you can’t answer them all; we’ll contact you to fill in any gaps. The questions are about how to contact you and some basic medical and personal history.
